The journey of the Energy Meter began with mechanical meters, which used electromagnetic forces to spin a metal disc to measure electricity consumption. In the 1980s, it evolved into digital meters, offering more accuracy and easier reading via LCD displays. By the 2000s, smart meters emerged, capable of transmitting real-time energy usage data through communication networks, allowing users to instantly monitor and control their energy consumption. Today, smart meters have further developed into IoT-connected devices, integrating with home appliances for automated energy management. They will play a crucial role in the Smart Grid system of the future.
